New Trainer Becomes Pro with Creative Training Techniques

Finding My Passion: Applying Boot Camp Basics

After recently attending a two-day Boot Camp with trainer Becky Pluth, MaryClaire Rocheleau emailed her boss:

Thank you! The class I attended this week was phenomenal. The content was not only appropriate to my current level of knowledge but provided me with at least 20 tangible ideas that I can put into immediate use for the PMPI Training.

I continue to appreciate your allowing me to step out of my “paid role” to explore what I am finding to be my passion. I aspire to be like the trainer who facilitated this session

Again, thank you! I am truly lucky to have such a supportive and encouraging boss and do want you to know how much I appreciate you.

She then followed up with us to relate how the Boot Camp had been implemented—in some rather unexpected ways!

What I tried differently

One of the messages I heard from you was that a PowerPoint presentation should be used to enhance a session but not be the only method of delivery. Everyone in the class I attended agreed that you could have delivered our class without use of PowerPoint, and it would have been every bit as enjoyable and informative. Knowing that I had just accepted the responsibility to design, develop and deliver a training session, I was grabbing every little tid-bit I could from this class (you see, I’ve NEVER designed training before). I cannot tell you how pleased I am that I somehow filed that bit of information away.

How did it go?

Sure enough, on the second day, we were unable to connect using an LCD projector, and I had no choice but to deliver the class without the use of a computer. I’m more than happy to say that nobody was aware that a PowerPoint had even been created. This is a bit of information that will remain with me.

My warmest regards,

MaryClaire Rocheleau, Genzyme
