Purpose: Establish a Learning Community, Introduce New Concept, Refocus Learner
Set-up
- Create a slide that says the following:
“Light with dark markings and smooth like a rock, where
learning occurs, I help convey thought. What am I?”
Text chat your guess.
- Create a second slide that includes the answer: A whiteboard
- Create a slide that includes the following:
“I am a source of communication. I am a way of meeting.
I wink at you. I am known as the ‘Great Gossiper.’ I am
intellectual. What am I?”
- Create a second slide that includes the answer: A computer
- Insert the slides into the beginning of the presentation or as
energizer slides in the middle of the slide deck.
Trainer Process
- Put up the “Riddle Me This” slide.
- Ask learners to text chat the answer or ideas as they come up
with one.
- When someone has the right answer, move on to the next slide.
- When that has been solved, ask participants to make a
connection between the riddles and what is being learned or
will be learned.
- Look for: tools we will use today; part of how we learn is
by writing things down; sometimes we think we are being
clear, but the learner may not grasp it
- No matter the riddle, it can be used as a quick way to energize a
group and get brain cells firing again.
Variations
- Each learner is responsible for coming up with a riddle about
a learning theme or topic covered. These need to be emailed to
the facilitator prior to the next webinar (along with the answer).
- Use the “Riddles” throughout the next session to energize
learners and revisit content in a fun way.
- Use easier riddles for quicker reaction and response. For more
advanced critical thinkers use slightly more complex riddles.
