The Immeasurable Benefits of Training to Train

Teachers regularly benefit from ongoing education—not only learning more about what they teach, but also in how they teach. Learning how to connect with a class, engage with a group, or motivate people to learn can have incredible value, whether a teacher is just starting out in the field or has years of experience under his or her belt. It’s no different with trainers. If you can’t connect, engage, and motivate people to remember what you’re talking about, what’s the point?  According to Jack Welch, “An organization’s ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly, is the ultimate competitive advantage.” And according to Benjamin Franklin, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”

It is essential to the lifeblood of your business to teach your trainers how to train. What we’ve learned here at the Bob Pike Group is that a traditional lecture style isn’t effective because it’s not interactive. How many times have you zoned out while listening to a teacher or professor drone on and on? You maybe even took notes, but didn’t actually absorb and retain the information.

Unfortunately, you can’t just open your mouth and transfer the knowledge. Talking at people doesn’t work.

What does work is clearly organizing the information, effectively communicating key messages so that those with different styles of learning can grasp what’s being shared, and not only grasp it, but understand and remember what they’ve learned.

When the trainer knows how to effectively train, it’s an investment in the future of the company—motivating the workforce to go above and beyond in delivering exceptional results.
