Try this opening activity in your next staff development session and challenge the teachers to see how they could use it with their own students.
Pass the Toilet Paper
Purposes: Physical stretch break, getting to know you, revisiter
Audience Size: Any
Time: 5-10 minutes
Space: Enough room for people to move around
Materials: A roll or two of toilet paper depending on the size of your group
Budget: Cost of toilet paper
Application: Give participants a stretch break and a get-to-know-you activity
Process:
1. Pass around a roll of toilet paper to the group and tell them to take
what they need. Give no further directions.
2. Once everyone has taken the amount of toilet paper they need, ask them to stand and find a partner who is not sitting at their table. Once they have a partner, tell them to share a fact about themselves for each square of toilet paper they took.
3. Once everyone has completed sharing, they return to their seats.
Variation: This can also be a revisit exercise by having participants share a learning
point or action idea from the workshop for each square of toilet paper they took.
