Train-the-Trainer Tip: Lecture Buster

In order to engage your participants every 8 minutes, here are a few “Lecture Buster” questions you can ask.  After a mini lecture or several Power Point slides, have the participants turn to one other person or work in their small groups to answer one of these questions. The question you choose to ask may depend on the content you are covering.

  • What have you previously read or heard about this topic?
  • Why do you think we are learning about this?
  • How might this information relate to your job or life?
  • What was the most interesting information you heard? Why?
  • What are you still having trouble understanding?
  • What was an “AHA” idea?
  • What do you want to learn more about?

After the groups have had a few minutes to answer the question, take several answers from the whole group before transitioning to your next topic.
