Who are You? Creating a Team Identity

When putting learners into groups, Lindsay Lyons suggests giving each team bandanas, one color per team. Their assignment is to be the first group to decide how to wear the bandana. Each group member must wear the bandana that way and no two groups can wear it the same way. The first team to choose how to wear the bandana and is unanimously modeling it, gets a prize. Such a simple exercise has a multitude of purposes, too; it utilizes negotiation, demonstrates command skills, gets creativity flowing and creates team spirit.

Lyons is senior training analyst at Dell, Round Rock, Texas.
