Meet Priscilla Shumway, M.Ed.

Meet Priscilla Shumway, M.Ed.

Priscilla Shumway has been in the education and training industry for over 25 years. A former public school teacher and corporate trainer, Priscilla has focused her energies on staff development and training in the education, publishing and software industries since 1991. She's an outstanding trainer and we're proud to call her one of our own. But what about the off-the-clock Priscilla? Who is she really? We asked her a few questions so you could get to know her a bit better.

CTT: If you were meeting someone for the first time, what things would you tell them about yourself?

Priscilla: I am lucky to be working at a job that I love and that adds value to the lives of those I work with every day.

CTT: Tennis shoes or heels? Or...

Priscilla: Flip flops! Then tennis shoes. Since I live at the beach we don’t wear “real” shoes very often..

CTT: On a Friday night, would you rather go to a dinner party or read a good book?

Priscilla: Cook dinner at home, then a movie (either at a theater or at home) and in bed by 10.

CTT: What is an area in training where you have been strengthened through the use of participant-centered training?

Priscilla: Less telling more discovery by the participants. I have so much great information in my head but I have to keep my mouth shut more!

CTT: What is one of your favorite a-ha! moments that a client has had while working with you?

Priscilla: My sister, who is a Ph.D. neurophysiologist and author of leading textbooks, has changed how she teaches international seminars based on our conversations. She just called me to say that her mantra now is “What would Priscilla do?"

CTT: When you were young, what did you think you would do for a job "when I grow up"? How is your current job related to that first job?

Priscilla: I always wanted to be a teacher. Once I learned that girls could not be priests, I decided to become a teacher. (I had wanted to be a Catholic doctor missionary, similar to Dr. Schweitzer). And here I am, still in the education field. I truly believe this is why I was put on this planet.
