Purpose: This exercise provides a fun and yummy way to review content.
Audience: Any size
Time: Add 10–20 minutes to your class time
Space: Any classroom
Materials: Prepared Bingo cards and a small bag of M&Ms for each participant
Budget: Cost of cards and candy
Application: Have participants review content throughout the training
Process: 1. Prior to class you’ll need to create the Bingo cards. Place words in the Bingo squares that are important and relate to your content. If you teach this course often, you may want to laminate your cards so they can be used multiple times. The words need to appear in different
spaces on each card. Use a mix of words on each card. Below is an example of a card for New Employee Orientation:
2. Let your participants know that throughout the class you will be sharing important information they will need to be productive employees. Tell them you have created a Bingo game which will help them learn and remember important things about their job.
3. Distribute a Bingo card and bag of M&Ms to each participant. Tell them you’ll be playing a version of Bingo throughout the class. The first time they hear you say any of the words on their card, they should cover those words with an M&M. As soon as they get a Bingo on their card, they should stand and yell out “Bingo!”
4. This review exercise is played just like the game of Bingo. If they cover a row horizontally, diagonally or vertically they call out “Bingo!”
5. Each time a person calls out “Bingo!” he/she needs to explain or describe what the words mean on his/her line. It is okay for them to use their notes or manual to explain the words. They may then eat the candy.
Cautions: This exercise should be fun for the participants – not threatening.
Variations: You may use Skittles, jelly beans, Tootsie Rolls, caramels or any candy for the Bingo markers.
