Tricia Small of Cartus was one of our 2013 Pike's Peak Performance Award recipients. Read on to see why!

Tricia Small at Cartus, a leader in relocation services located in Connecticut, was named a 2013 recipient of the Pike's Peak Performance Award because of her resolve and determination to see Cartus' training redesigned with the learner in mind.

"Tricia [Small] is the nucleus behind the Cartus Learning and Development Department getting 'Piked' and implementing participant-centered training in our organization," wrote Jessica Olmstead, Cartus training specialist, in her nomination of Small who has the "ability to drive and influence people to results beyond their own expectations."

After having her team members from Tennessee, Texas, England and Singapore meet in Danbury, Conn., for additional training in interactive and learner-centric training, Small "could see the wheels turning in each facilitator’s head and took this opportunity to call us together yet again to brainstorm how we can 'Pike' our courses going forward, not only classroom sessions but web sessions as well," Olmstead continued. "Having the ability to spread this wealth of knowledge throughout the U.S. as well as globally has given us the opportunity to train so many people in a more positive and impactful way proving that Bob Pike’s philosophy can easily spread across the globe."

As a result of the training championed by Small and Olmstead's implementation, "The difference that I see in my participants is immense to say the least. Changing my mindset and approach from instructor-centered to participant-centered learning has increased my participants' in-class and on the floor retention, participation and enjoyment and has also proven itself to be a great team/group building opportunity."

"Tricia is immensely perceptive at identifying where her team’s facilitation may need a boost of energy and creativity and sometimes a fresh new approach. She realizes that the success of our organization as a whole lies in the capabilities of her team being able to deliver information through training sessions that are engaging and interactive, that foster growth and that light a desire in the participants to want to learn and retain the information being provided," Olmstead said. "She goes above and beyond to ensure that her team receives the tools necessary to be successful and in turn, release successful participants into our workforce."

The Pike’s Peak Performance Award is a formal recognition of trainers or organizations who have transformed their training by implementing participant-centered, results-based techniques championed by Bob Pike. These techniques involve participants in their own learning instead of relying on an instructor-led, lecture-based format. The award recipients have demonstrated improved retention and training transfer in their sessions by implementing these methods as well as an increased tie-in to business objectives.
