This session aims to change the game for how trainers approach virtual presentations to make them twice as fun and ten times more productive. Ease presentation anxiety with tips, tricks, and tools that can give any virtual trainer the confidence of a Zen master!

In this session, you’ll begin seeing classic SNL sketches through a brand-new lens: how they can inspire us to become more fun, creative, and memorable trainers. Analyze how historic SNL sketches can teach you how to lead workshops that’ll make your learners say, “Party on!” Assess how SNL sketches illustrate training mistakes that could cause you to wind up living in a van down by the river. And apply hidden training wisdom from SNL sketches, including the Church Lady’s catch phrase, “Well, isn’t that special?”

Learning objectives are the foundation of effective training, and yet too often, designers build training on top of ambiguous, wordy objectives that are difficult to measure. In this session, we’ll dissect learning objectives and identify the critical elements that ensure learning objectives lead to results. Learn the strategies that make writing effective learning objectives a breeze and apply them to your own objectives for an instant upgrade in your training—and your results!

According to a recent(ish) Newsweek article, if you can make your learners laugh, they’ll see you as having a higher IQ, they’ll experience greater comprehension and recall, and “you must be a premium subscriber to read the rest of this article.” Wait, that can’t be right. Still sounds pretty awesome though, huh?! So how can we use humor to our advantage as trainers? Discover how to evaluate the rest of the neuropsychological benefits of being funny (assuming Newsweek doesn’t decline my Mastercard). Analyze common mistakes that will make your humor fall flat (and increase tension in your learners’ brains). And apply a 6-step comedy-writing checklist (with examples) to help you quickly come up with hilarious content on the spot.

Remember the children’s story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears? You know, this porridge is too hot, this one is too cold, this one is just right. Struggling works in the same way. Too much struggle in virtual learning will lead to frustration. Too little struggle is just spoon-feeding participants with a golden ladle. Just the right amount of pain and struggle: that’s what allows participants to feel a sense of accomplishment and meaning in training, which builds up a sense of autonomy and self-worth. Join this session to define the Goldilocks zone of struggle and discover how much struggle is just right.

Fred Rogers took intense care in shaping each episode by combing through every single word of the script to make small adjustments that ensured he sent the proper messages to his viewers. In this session, we will explore minor changes you can make immediately to your training that will have a major impact on learning!
