Doug McCallum Receives Peak Performer Award
By Liz Wheeler

Doug McCallum, one of our senior training consultants, recently was awarded the Peak Performer Award by The Bob Pike Group at the company's annual conference in Minneapolis.

McCallum has been with the company for more than 30 years and is a proponent for training that gets his participants involved, not zombified by lecture. "Participant-centered training focuses on the learner and makes learning active by bringing the content to life," said Becky Pike Pluth, vice president of training and development at The Bob Pike Group. "Doug has always engaged his participants and has had great success making learning memorable and enjoyable."

McCallum received the award because of the overwhelmingly positive evaluations he received from his workshop participants from August 2008 through August 2009. On his final evaluations for each training course, McCallum received an average of 4.95 out of a 5.00 scale. "Our goal is for every consultant to be above a 4.5 over the course of a year, and Doug has always blown that out of the water, but a 4.95? That is incredible, especially when Doug has had groups of 'prisoners' who don't want to be in class," Pluth said. "By the time participants are halfway through the class with Doug, however, they realize that learning can be enjoyable and interactive, and the time flies by!"

McCallum has been training adults for more than 30 years. He received his master's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has developed numerous seminars as well as keynotes. His professional career includes sales, public school teaching, industrial consulting, public speaking and counseling. He also was a professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for eight years. He is the recipient of numerous awards for his ability to lead seminars and professional training sessions across the United States and Canada.

As a trainer, McCallum brings an ability to educate and entertain, plus a sense of humor and empathy. Doug has the expertise to help the new or seasoned trainer find techniques that work. The ideas and techniques he presents can be quickly adopted and easily implemented.

McCallum has created, customized, and delivered seminars and workshops on: How Training and Teaching Styles Affect Learning and Retention, How to Improve Communication and Decrease Conflict, How to Put Pizzazz Into Your Presentations, and Team Building: Using Interactive Techniques.

As a senior training consultant with The Bob Pike Group, McCallum has delivered over 200 Creative Training Techniques™ seminars and consulted with numerous companies to help them improve their training programs.
