This is just a sampling of comments we get at the Professional Development Alliance after one of our SCORE or RCTS workshops. The positive feedback and conversations I have with participants make presenting SCORE and RCTS one of the most gratifying experiences of my career as an educator and trainer. I only wish I had known about Bob Pike when I was teaching middle and high school!

One aspect of the SCORE and RCTS workshops that I'm very excited about is the impact on so many of the key participants in the educational system. Principals, teachers, counselors, reading specialists, and curriculum directors have all attended Bob Pike workshops at the PDA and have expressed how useful the information they've gained will be in their work with school children. Of course, this broad appeal is one of the reasons our workshops are well attended… they appeal to educators and administrators at all levels of the educational system.

As you can see, we're excited about SCORE and RCTS. I feel there are a number of factors contributing to the success of the workshops besides the excellent content. We provide an attractive training environment, and we have a staff that believes in excellent customer service. We provide a continental breakfast, lunch and snacks (I always try to provide a bit of chocolate in the afternoon). You can include the cost of food in the workshop price and, if you feed the participants, they won't eat the presenter! Finally, you can't miss when you've got a great product that's as engaging, informative, and useful as our Bob Pike workshops obviously are!

Mike Toncray was a classroom teacher and is now a consultant with the Professional Development Alliance in Joliet, Ill. The PDA has been a certified partner withThe Bob Pike Group since 2005.

Why are all the good ideas left behind in elementary school? Remember recess? One of the best parts of the day. We should leverage these decades-old learning strategies to make adult learning more memorable and workplaces more enjoyable.
It might be common sense to figure out your company's goals and then tie training to that-but we all know common sense isn't so common. As a training director in your company, your first item of business needs to be identifying the true business/productivity goals of your company.
Some managers might think that with the economy the way it is, it's not as critical to figure out how to manage the Millenials. After all, aren't they just lucky to have jobs? And the answer to that question would be "no." If the job isn't all they wanted, they'll simply quit - and if they need to, move back home - and that's not such a bad deal. Beyond that, the Millenials are here to stay - and the boomer generation is not. More and more of them are retiring, and someone is going to have to take up the slack. And those someones are the Millenials. Managers who learn to understand this generation and how to work with them are going to be extremely valuable over the next 20 years. Will you be one of them?
