Asked and Answered: Interactive Webinars
Liz Wheeler
Asked: I am looking for successful ways to present webinars, tips to make them more effective, etc. Is there such a class or seminar?
Answered: We do have materials and a session on making remote training interactive that is currently offered as a one-day in-house. We do not have this as a public seminar at this time. Another idea that may give you some great ideas is ordering the Creative Training Techniques newsletter. This publication is sent out monthly and has a lot of tips and tricks for training; I know there are upcoming articles specifically on how to make webinars/remote training interactive, including Bob Pike’s column for the January issue which is also available in the online archives for subscribers. They will provide specific “openers and energizers” to help engage any audience.
Bob also models some interactive techniques on a recorded webinar you can access free by going to http://sas.elluminate.com/site/external/event/description?instance_id=1800.
Webinar Bingo
One opener and energizer to make your webinar more interactive is to create a list of topics that you will be covering during the call and put it on a PowerPoint slide. Then each participant on the webinar creates a 3x3 or a 4x4 “bingo” card and inserts the topics in any order. They then listen and participate, and when a topic has been covered, they cross off that box. When someone gets four in a row, they call “Bingo” and share one thing they learned during that segment or topic. It is a great way to 1) engage your listeners, 2) reinforce what has been covered, 3) and have fun on what could be a dry or dull webinar.
