Blanchard Named as 2008 Conference Keynoter By Liz Wheeler Ken Blanchard, best-selling co-author of The One Minute Manager and The One Minute Apology, will be kicking off the 15th Annual Training and Performance Solutions Conference to be held in Minneapolis in 2008. His participation was announced during the closing ceremonies of this year’s conference.
“It's exciting to have Ken and the Ken Blanchard Companies be a part of our 2008 conference on many levels,” said Bob Pike, chairman and founder of The Bob Pike Group. ”First, Ken and I have been friends for more than 20 years. Because of that, I have seen his commitment to the same values that we have at The Bob Pike Group— especially adding value and making a difference. Second, his unique storytelling ability makes him one of the best keynote speakers I have ever heard. Third, his commitment to challenging and equipping people to lead at a higher level—to serve and support rather than be served—is exactly what we need to be doing in our organizations if we are to reach our highest potential.”
Having the Blanchard companies be a part of next year’s conference is the first announcement of the exciting events being planned for next year. The conference will be held in Minneapolis September 29 through October 3, 2008. Reserve the dates! Participants who register before January 15 will also receive a $300 discount and a free The Bob Pike Group fleece jacket. To get on the conference mailing list, call BPG at 800-383-9210. Research shows that interacting with your learners “is one of the most powerful factors in promoting learning” while “interactions among learners is another” (Angelo 1993). And teachers who present the information in a dynamic manner and display a genuine interest in what they Getting people to use learning resources in the company library can be tricky, Kathleen Miller-Buettner and Susan Hayley-Gates say.
Their library has books, videos and audio tapes on communication skills, management skills, balancing work and home lives, and dozens of other topics.
But, as in many organizations, the materials once went mostly unused.
To encourage corporate library use—and learning—the training department initiated a TOM (theme of the month) Club. Membership is free. Each month has a topical theme – effective feedback, industry information and the like. Trainers, however, don’t disclose what the month’s theme is. Instead they post clues throughout the office and via email on the first day of each month. Employees guess the theme, placing their guess in one of the special TOM Club raffle boxes around the workplace. Back To Archives
